Im halfway to the 8th week, and boy oh boy there were some changes, physically and.. physically. Alhamdulillah, I haven’t had any major mood swings or drama. Only that, I’m easily moved by romantic, happy songs.

Such as this song, which I watched yesterday, over and over again. With tears trickling down the cheeks and laughing at myself for doing so over such song. (Four days of sick leave, really leaves you with nothing better to do. heh)

*little one, please don’t follow mummy’s weepiness, okay?*

Let’s go to the list of changes I’m going through or have gone through. *Note: According to Murkoff, Eisenberg & Hathaway (2002) these changes are normal during pregnancy, but may differ from one person to another.

1. Tightness of clothing around waist and breasts -Even though, I am not ‘showing’ yet, but putting on jeans, pants and kain will make me queasy as they are becoming more snug. It’s either I have to wear it reallllllyy low (thank you punggung warisan) or realllllllyy high, right under the ribs. Oh, and yeah, am having no problem at all filling in my bra. That, I have no complaint. 😉

2. Occasional headaches – the headaches are more pronounce now especially during my 4 days sick leave. I’m not really sure if it is cause by being trapped inside the house spending most of the time either sleeping, surfing the Internet or watching the tv. It might be from the heat too. It usually starts around 2pm and will lasts till Hubby reach homes 8pm. Hormones or just plain mengada-ngada? Hahaha

3. Nausea, with or without vomiting – Alhamdulillah, so far I have no morning sickness BUT evening sickness. Sometimes it comes along with the headaches. Peak hour is from 5pm till Hubby comes home 8pm.  Among the main culprit that would trigger the queasiness are the smell of cooking oil being heated, or anything being fried. Thank god for Vicks.

4. Food cravings and aversion – so far, no cravings. But I love sweet things. Right now I am imagining, I’m savouring a huge slice of Secret Recipe’s Banana Chocolate Cake. Aduh… Ok stop. I can eat pretty much everything, but not too much. Everything must be in small portions. Moderation is the key. I would tend to throw up if I have too much of these – curry (the last time I ate keema and chapati, I threw up the whole thing. darn. it’s my favourite!), fried foods and anything with santan in it. I pretty much steer clear of seafood, and also sour or spicy food (as per Hubby instruction). Oh, Hubby forced me to I drink milk 2 times per day now, walaupun sebelum minum tu kena termenung lamaaaa dan tarik nafas panjang. As a result I have become …

5. A flatulence machine – atau kentut machine. Between me and Hubby, he used to do more kentuting than me, but now it’s the other way round. Thanks milk.

6. Fatigue – this was more pronounce between 5th-7th week. Only 9pm, and I am off to lala land. But this week, I can stay awake until pass 10.30pm. Well, maybe because I am on sick leave, and can afford to have that extra snooze during the day. We’ll see next week.

That’s it for now. I am just listing out the changes I’m going through, to share. and not to complain. As I told my younger sister, “If this is what it takes to have the baby, bring it on!”. Not being cocky, but all these have its reward in the end. Sometimes, the hardships that we went through to achieve what we really want, makes the achievement much much much sweeter and worth it. Oh, and by the way, the bleeding has subside. Alhamdulillah. All clear now. Keep the prayers for mummy and little one coming. 🙂

The Day I Decided to Photo-Blog December 16, 2009

It’s amazing to realise how the simplest things in life could inspire you. I had a long day in the office, nearly dozed off behind the wheel. Once I reached home, went straight to my room and went totally knocked out. With baju kurung, hamis and all. Sangat penat. And yes, kerja adalah sangat menimbun (yeah, bring my work home. But to do it is a different story.. insert pathetic laugh/smirk here)

Back to the first sentence. So I was tired, sleepy and hungry. Factor in the absence of the Hubby, thus the laziness, no-mood-for-anything simply multiply. After fixing myself a simple dinner (since my parents are away, I asked the maid not to cook), I decided to watch The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 (TSTP2) on HBO. And boy, my eyes were glued to the tv watching the second installment. This time the girls – Tibby, Carmen, Bridgette and Lena are all grown up and attending colleges, except  for Tibby who works in a video store.  For a start, I am not a fan of chic-lit, you know the damsel in distress, prince charming kinda stories. I’m all for girl power kinda thing. Heh. So, anyway the story was very heartwarming, about mending relationship, friendship and yeah, soul searching.

Maka, dengan bangganya saya mengaku, I cried watching the movie. To actually think that this movie was based on a fiction written for teenagers – iyelah about coming of age and everything. Haha. Ain’t I a bit too old for that? But the point is, it made me feel good afterwards.

(Speaking of her, I’m sort of missing her. Sigh, Adik, when are we going to play Monopoly City against Abg Napi the self confessed Monopoly champ ni?)

Therefore, let me share with you these pictures. Nothing new, the stories accompanying the pictures were posted before anyway. 🙂

No.1

The crooked finger and the missing soul sole

Picture was taken after representing my department in a netball game. The left index finger bent awkwardly and still is even after 3 weeks. Oh my !  Why is the finger looked stubby and chubby? It was swollen actually. Bukan gemok la! *denial* haha. Meanwhile, in the background is my right sneaker which lost it’s soul sole. There’s supposed to be a black sole underneath it, but what’s left only the white flappy thingy. Itulah, main netball 9 tahun sekali. Mana tak jadi gitu. :p

No. 2

Aftermath of the Korean against Germany

No. 2. The reason behind me being RM500 poorer. Thanks to Hubby who kindly subsidised 3/4 of the cost, I am poorer by RM150 only:D. Ops, excluding the repair cost for Baba’s car. Alamak. This is the second accident in a year. And this time involving Baba”s Matrix and some unlucky penghantar suratkhabat’s BMW 5 series with plate number JFN 3*88.  See the reflection on the car’s window. yup, it happened outside Alliance Bank. Something needs to be done about my relationship with Alliance Bank. Heh. Dan sampai kini tak percaya the owner works as newspaper delivery man.

No. 3

The 5a.m Chicken Burger/Patties

Drew the inspiration from Ayin’s entry on homemade burgers with some tweaks and adjustments. Pardon the very low quality and amateurish pictures. Burger pun tak larat nak posing pukul 5 pagi tau! Why 5a.m? That’s the time I woke up to prepare my Hubby’s breakfast and bekal to work. Sangat bersyukur he works 15 days per month, and only 7/8 days in the morning. Hehe.

The No.3 is among our effort in eating healthier, and initiates my Project Sandwiches/Burgers – to create a wholesome sandwiches ala Subway for Hubby’s lunch/brunch box. At least we know what we put in the burgers, unlike those bought from the supermarkets. Since we are also trying to conceive, jadi what goes in, matters. 🙂 It’s not exactly good to have fast food/processed food frequently. Sad to say, those kind of food are easier to prepare/cook especially in 5.am. Plus, it’s also easy to consume (read: bila makan nampak macho), on the go kind of thing, which is sangatlah sesuai untuk orang lelaki kan. With that, item no. 3 will be included in my New Year Resolution – eat and cook healthily. Expect more homemade sandwiches/burgers to come!! Notes: Is there a way to maintain the crunchiness of the veggies until it’s time to be consumed? Hubby refuses to have any in his sandwiches as he said it would be soggy and taste funny by the time he eats it. Any ideas?

Eh, do I have to put up the recipes too? 😉

Lastly, to wrap up the eat and cook healthy campaign, presenting the motto, as modeled by my 2 year old nephew, Izz Irfan

*Give peas a chance*

Peace out! or shall I say Peas out?

INI ADALAH TANGGUNGJAWAB KITA SEBAGAI SAUDARA SESAMA MUSLIM, SAMPAIKAN
KEPADA RAKAN-RAKAN YANG LAIN…

A colleague sent this out to Everyone in the office. This would be the second time I have received the same e-mail with the same content. I have some serious doubt on the origin of the e-mail. Imigresan? Shouldn’t it be spelled as Imigresen? ISO9002 is not even related to the food industry. Hrmph.

A check from JAKIM website shows the same e-mail has been forwarded to them on 2008!! Below is their reply

Jawapan :

Terima kasih

With the rising of reports on the misused of Halal logo, something should be done to avoid confusion and losing faiths with ‘the system’ and Halal food industry. Furthermore, being a customer who frequent these coffee joints, I have the right to ensure that whatever goes in my body, has to be from a Halal source. This kind of forwarded e-mail should be stopped *ibarat melontar batu, sembunyi tangan*. Somehow, this type of e-mail did trigger a lot of emotion (oh no!! no Toffee Nut Latte for mee???) and speculation. I mean, if the content of the e-mail is not true at all, wouldn’t it be considered as fitnah? Wallahualam.. Adakah kita telah menyebarkan fitnah? Nauzubillah.

I made a few research of my own (wei takde keje ke?), and these are my findings. Remember, I did this to inform and be informed, not to criticise, boycott or menjatuhkan mana-mana pihak.

1. Both Starbucks and Coffee Bean have the Halal logo being displayed on their websites. The former company display it more prominently than the latter, and includes an e-mail address specifically for any enquiry related to the Halal status.

2. A search in Halal Direktori from JAKIM website has shown that the products being used and sold at Starbucks and Coffee Bean are certified Halal (read here). Yes, this includes chocolate, vanilla and coffee drinks, as well as their desserts (that includes tiramisu). Since each Halal cert have it’s own validity period, the applicant MUST take note of the expiry date for each items. In terms of Halal status of the premises, Starbucks are being listed, with each branch have its own Halal certificate (the certificates for Starbucks are from HDC. Read it here).

3. A user has posted about her doubts on ingredients being used in certain products which has the E prefixes, such as E471, E422 etc. This is the reply from JAKIM taken from the website. Read more here:

Harap maklum

It clearly says that any products which has been certified Halal by JAKIM, are indeed Halal in terms of its sources, how it is being processed as well as its content.

4. An e-mail has been sent by me to both Starbucks and Coffee Bean, to see what is their take regarding this issue and what would they do to put it to rest. I would inform you if there is any updates or discounts from them .

So, why did I go to such extent to prove all these? Besides being a greatest fan of Toffee Nut Latte (with whipped cream please), I am tired of hearing all these ‘khabar-khabar angin’ questioning about Halal status when in fact there’s a huge stamp or logo being displayed on the front door. I am referring to those logo issued by JAKIM or HDC. I am also tired of being looked/whispered/snickered at while enjoying my occasional cuppa in the office (I am not rich! I can get RM2 off when I bring my own tumbler!). I am not trying to be the smartypants or to declare war with anyone who would not drink their coffee. What I am trying to say, instead of sentiasa dirundungi was-was,  we might as well go directly to the source and seek the answer. What would happen to us, as an Islamic country if we can’t have faith in JAKIM or HDC? I am pretty sure that those people who are working for JAKIM and HDC realised the huge responsibilities resting on their shoulders, and therefore they won’t take their jobs lightly, betul tak Dadar? I have faith in you JAKIM and HDC and I am very much depended on you to ensure whatever goes in my body, which eventually would become my flesh and blood, which would flow into my future children are indeed Halal. As the saying goes, we are what we eat.

I hope to get some reply from Starbucks and Coffee Bean soon as their future is depending on me. So, people, whenever you read or hear something, stop speculate! And start educate!
